Ohh, no, the friend's name is not Pinocchio! We lent it for paint and it is appears in two pictures. ![]() Here is the photo of painting "a-la prima" - We know you like to watch the process. ![]() The third photo shows details. The goal (technical side) of this painting was to show different wood textures: loose and mellow shavings, soft wood of planks, table with half-erased old varnish. Different textures, but all of them are warm and golden. The cold blue of the blade comes for contrast.

It is in the same family as the pumpkin. When its getting dry, the seeds inside drying as well and falling one-one. By turning it upsidedown, you also get the sound of flowing water, which absolutely magic. The güiro is a percussion instrument consisting of an open-ended, hollow gourd with parallel notches cut in one side. It is played by rubbing a wooden stick ("pua") along the notches to produce a ratchet-like sound.

Friday, 12 March 2010Pumpkins Elections
Right before Christmas Andre brought home exotic pumpkins. Their price also was exotic - it cost about x4 to compare to regular pumpkins. Seeing my raised eyebrows, Andre said he was going to paint these pumpkins and I mellowed.
... December passed and January passed as well. Pumpkins decorated our kitchen, changed colors and became part of interior. Sometimes we said that need to paint them already. February run away... In March pumpkins became change colors intensively - they lived their own life and welcomed spring. One Saturday Andre said "it's right moment now" and just did it! ![]() Size: 30x42 cm Media: oil colors on canvas © ANDRE STASHINSKI 2010![]() * After they were painted - they were stuffed, baked and eaten (very tasty indeed!).

Search This BlogABOUT USWhy Still Life
Still life is one of genres that often underestimated as it is considered educational. Let us disagree with this. Still life is a mirror of the moment, it often deals with everyday objects that seem us casual today, but in a while they would make an interest for spectator as "antique" stuff. Fashion, technologies, habits of people change faster then you can imagine. Once these still objects get reflected in the painting - they receive a fixed place in lines of our memories. Thanks to its ability to be composed in particular way, still life is an excellent tool to express the mood or idea of the author. Exactly alike one's mind it could be plain or deep, joyful or pissed of, to express curiosity/ balance or disbalance/ Zen or stress, etc.
TO CALL THEM NAMESWhen named - painting is getting personal. Reviving itself, he will wake you up to emotions, associations and thoughts. Giving creative names to the paintings we often turn the spectator to another direction. Named still life is getting alive, playful and actively interact with spectator.
