Friday, 22 May 2009Afternoon workshop![]() The afternoon workshop in our place. We had a limited time today because afternoon lightning is usually shorter. (A natural light it always better!). Suddenly, the the stress of lightless brought positive effect - it motivated my painters to work sharper, faster and confident. 524 - aka five (minutes) to four. Size: 30x22 cm Media: oil colors on canvas © VANESSA STASHINSKI 2009 ![]() It's my demo-work above. Not a great photo, sorry about that. Next time I should to take photos showing the progress (in some steps) of painting. I have to admit that I was worried about the light-problem and that it could make a workshop a bit stressful, but in fact it was pleasurable and lots of fun – I think we should practice daily workshops more often.

Wednesday, 20 May 2009SweetsSize: 8x6 cm, 12x10 cm with frame Media: oil colors on canvas © VANESSA STASHINSKI 2009 Very small (only 8x6 cm / 12x10 cm with frame) oil painting, finished with natural wooden frame. Even it's a small painting - it wasn't an easy task. The semitransparent shiny sweets reflected, shined, hopped it … they just changed their look every moment! Saying the truth – they were hard target! I think I succeeded to show their fidgetiness. :)

It was painted by both of us, while caressing our new-born son. We were switching in this work - while one is painting, the second one was caressing the baby, vice versa.

Tuesday, 12 May 2009Beloved sealSize: 22x15 cm Media: oil colors Matted (no frame) © VANESSA STASHINSKI 2009 Not for sale It's portrait of my best travel mate - Johan d' Seal. I painted this in 2009, when Johan was still young and handsome. We travelled the world together, going through amazing and unexpected. He used to be firmly attached to my bag for years. We grew up together, Johan started to be a bit bold and a bit wrinkled, but he still was the same cheerful and cool buddy and always was at my side. One day Johan disappeared. It happen in metro in Vienna. We were searching for him for hours, asking about him in "lost and found", walking back on the same roads - but we didn't find him. I want to think that he is doing well and just dived into new life . May be some child found him and they made friends. It's such a fun with Johan. I really miss him dearly. Of course painting is not for sale. Yours, V.

Search This BlogABOUT USWhy Still Life
Still life is one of genres that often underestimated as it is considered educational. Let us disagree with this. Still life is a mirror of the moment, it often deals with everyday objects that seem us casual today, but in a while they would make an interest for spectator as "antique" stuff. Fashion, technologies, habits of people change faster then you can imagine. Once these still objects get reflected in the painting - they receive a fixed place in lines of our memories. Thanks to its ability to be composed in particular way, still life is an excellent tool to express the mood or idea of the author. Exactly alike one's mind it could be plain or deep, joyful or pissed of, to express curiosity/ balance or disbalance/ Zen or stress, etc.
TO CALL THEM NAMESWhen named - painting is getting personal. Reviving itself, he will wake you up to emotions, associations and thoughts. Giving creative names to the paintings we often turn the spectator to another direction. Named still life is getting alive, playful and actively interact with spectator.
