Santa (1) and Santa (2)
Size: 20x15 cm each of themMedia: soft pastel on Ingres Paper© VANESSA STASHINSKI 2009 Here is a double-Santa for you. They supposed to be separated to two pictures and it's no any relative connection between them.
I like the Santa 1 (upper) for the character - just look his glance and spectacular pose!
I like his brother (below) for pastel softness and clean white around, his snow beard and his kids-friendly appearance.
You are welcome to make your own choice.
As I already mentioned - both pictures can ( and supposed) be sold separately.

The last poinsettia of Andre from this cycle. The plants' association with Christmas began in 16th century Mexico, where legend tells...

This painting, dated around 1990 is not for sale ever. I publish it here just to make a short break from parade of poinsettias.
All the objects on this paint has a sentimental background. Flowers and berries, that mark October, or maybe late September, white lines - from babe's wardrobe and glass - it's from grandma's storage, saved from early 20th of 20th century, or maybe even earlier.

This is the last one of this bouquet, before it's getting dry. Poinsettia even drying with self-respect. Leaves become deep violet at the corners, and, saving original shape, just falling down. Gorgeous plant!
Another name is from Egypt - "Bent El Consul" - means "the consul's daughter".

It's so beautiful that we can't stop painting it!
We found that Poinsettia has many names, vary in different regions and begins it's history as Christmas symbol from 16th cent Mexico. "Noche Buena" (Spanish) is one of the names. And, by the way, it's mexican beer too! "The only Christmas beer in Mexico, Noche Buena is a dark, full-bodied premium brew with a strong, distinctive flavor."
I think that "Noche Buena" is the best of my poinsettia seria, even the last (#4) is very good too.

Winter - it's lot of tea, cookies and sugar powder. Those are mini-cocus at their original size, even a bit enlarged. I plan to paint something in Christmas mood with many of these and hope that study will be useful.

Actually, I was painting these lovely cookies as a study for future paint, but seem they are self-sufficient.

We just brought home these twisted chilies from the grocery store. They were so vibrant, vital, and attractive -I couldn’t wait to paint them!

It's one more of travelling ducks painted by demand. Sometimes I feel like I'm a duck-travel agent :-)
I can't help - people like them. So I do!
I like these yellow ducks - they are little but brave buddies.
And... do you know what? I don't mind to paint it again.

Just received a box with art-materials from the store. What a pleasure is unpacking!
This time I received oil colors and linseed oil (1 liter jar) of Pebeo - French manufacturer. Their quality is satisfying and prices are reasonable. A Few months ago we tried KAIBO colors, made in China. Well, they were extremely cheap, but… ohhh… it was really, but r e a l l y baaaad! It’s correct to remind ourselves: “we are not even rich enough to buy cheap goods”. Hah, at least we tried!
Ah, yes, we purchased also varnish at this time. The big one (480ml!) which is supposed to be Van Goch (with VG’s auto portrait) is “ultra-shine” (OMG!) and stinky – we tried it immediately. The second one is “Triple Thick” spray (US) is good and multipurpose. It contains 6 oz (170 gr) and is quite expensive, but at least sure. Normally we don’t use varnish on paintings, but there are few pictures painted on rugged canvas; unfortunately colors paled when dried. Varnish is supposed to return them to their original qualities.

It’s rainy today. Intermittingly the rain stops and the telephone starts ringing: “Are you opened today? We want to arrive!” – We get telephones from the last-moment visitors. Yes, we are opened the last (last of the last) day. Tomorrow we’ll begin to disassemble, to send pictures that were sold, to return the studio up to a normal lifestyle. We enjoyed every moment and learned a lot from this show. I’ll write more lately.
Now I can’t help myself - I just m-u-s-t ! publish this authentic comment as it was, with no editing.
Here is the original text in Russian written by Vavanchik in our guestbook (sorry, folks, its folklore and can’t be translated!) :
“ Классная выставка, басаношки прям на мамку мою, а мне батиночки и все фрукты для приготовления вкуснейшей еды все так выглядит аппетитно и реально, как настоящее. Интересное сочетание клубнички и патронов. Натюрморты хороши, но в дальнейшем хотелось бы наблюдать пейзажи и портреты. Продолжайте в том же духе. Ваванчик”

I used to be frequently asked about the name of this paint. Well, Andre named it (thanks dear!)
So.. finally, what is it "metallography"?
"Metallography is the study of the physical structure and components of metals." (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallography).
My aim in this still-life was working on metals textures, forms and reflections, light and shadow play is always interesting as well.
